The Project Runway finale provided one of the biggest surprises of all. The winner of this year's Project Runway was a hotly argued subject -- and will probably continue to be.
'Project Runway' is in the eighth season
Lifetime Network is running the eighth season of “Project Runway”. Seventeen contestants began out the season, and over 14 episodes they were narrowed down to just one winner. The episode ran an extra half hour, mostly for product placement, in order to replace “Models of the Runway”.
The 'Project Runway' finale
This year, there was a recap in the last episode. That was how the “Project Runway” finale ended. The experience they had that season was talked about by the season 8 “Project Runway” contestants. After that, the “Project Runway” season finale was ready to happen. Typically, the “Project Runway” finale is filled with drama. This year, it wasn’t and ran really well. Andy had a green-and-silver collection that judges quickly took him out of the competition with. The judges had a hard time deciding between Gretchen and Mondo though. They were both fabulous. Nina and Michael thought Gretchen's 1970s easy, casual line "had her finger on the pulse of fashion.". Because of Mondo’s creativity and style, host Heidi Klum and guest judge Jessica Simpson both though that he should win. When the judges are choosing, a two against one vote will always win. This meant Gretchen won the competition.
Questioning the direction of 'Project Runway'
Season 6 of the Lifetime “Project Runway” left she show predictable. This was especially true through the finale. The judges when the show was still on Bravo TV would make decisions depending on the clothes. The clothes didn’t seem to matter as much in season 8 of “Project Runway.” This had been just like Season 6 and Season 7 were. Season 8 had a number of people getting eliminated that had great talent. Because they weren’t “good for TV” personalities, this happened. Product placement has also gotten much more blatant, with the extra half-hour dedicated nearly exclusively to products. It is clear that “Project Runway” is farther from its roots than ever as shown in this episode. Fashion probably isn’t going where Gretchen’s “rewind” designs seem to be going since nobody is wearing it.
